Biography -Dr. Aury M. Curbelo is the President of an Independent Consulting Cyber Security Firm and Professor at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus. She specializes in information systems and auditing courses. She has taught courses in the disciplines of business, education, information security and criminal justice for private and public universities for over 15 years. Aury started in the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services in Florida then she moved to the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez in which started to developed courses related to information system security.
She also was a part of the team for National Science Foundation Grant for Ethics Across the Curriculum (EAC), This grant provides to developed ethics online modules.-http://cnx.org. One of the popular modules is “ ethics in technology” among others.
In addition, she has a consulting firm in Cyber Security in which they train and consult costumers including lawyers, office of the court, teachers, and business personnel.
Aury has been awarded in several occasions as Outstanding Professor Award honors in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in the University of Puerto Rico. Her work was to increase the implementation of technology in education.
In addition, the Information Security Leadership Awards (ISLAS) from ISC2 awarded Dr. Curbelo with the distinctions of Up-and-Coming Information Security Professional – Finalist and the Community Service Star Award- for the project: Cyber Security Awareness Campaign for Teens in Puerto Rico.- https://www.isc2.org/aisla-winners/default.aspx
Dr. Curbelo is a leading authority in information security developing different initiatives in Puerto Rico for security awareness in conjunction with STOP.THINK.CONNECT (http://stopthinkconnect.org/)
She holds a Ph.D. in Human Community Resources Development (HCRD) with majoring in instructional technology and distance education from The Ohio State University.
